Green Construction Skills Training

USGBC New York has embarked on a green construction skills initiative in conjunction with local building trades and contractors. Our goal is to develop a scalable education program that is responsive to the learning styles of the construction industry and leverages the USGBC brand name. The curricula developed through this initiative will be made available to educational and governmental bodies, as well as to our union and contractor partners who will teach the courses through their educational infrastructures.

Partners include the Building Trades Employers Association (BTEA), the Building Construction Trades Council (BCTC), the Consortium for Worker Education (CWE), and the City University of New York (CUNY). USGBC New York will further support the program by offering a certification exam. The initiative is made possible by the generous support of New York Community Trust.

Between now and February 2009, we will develop seven curricula: Foundations of Green, Facility Management & Operations, Construction Management, Mechanical A, Mechanical B, and Electrical & Plumbing.
